Hangar door height is not a detail

If the door fights the aircraft, the building is already wrong.

Hangar door height is not a detail

A maintenance hangar that looks correct from the road can still fail the first time a tail clears the threshold. Door height, clear span, and approach grade are the job — trim color is not.

Measure the work, then the opening

Start with the largest aircraft or piece of equipment that has to move under power. Add the margin your crew actually needs for jacks, stands, and a bad day with ice on the apron. Then size the door and the clear height so nobody is negotiating with the frame mid-move.

Stock kits that advertise a generous door often still skim the clear height inside. Ask for the published clear height at the lowest purlin, not the ridge marketing number.

What to send Mike

  • Aircraft or equipment type and overall height
  • Whether you need drive-through or single-end access
  • Apron grade and snow-clearance plan at the threshold
  • Any crane or hoist that changes clear height later
