What snow load actually asks of the frame

Snow load is not a marketing badge. It is the combination of ground snow, drift at eaves and steps, and how the building sits relative to other roofs. A hangar next to a taller plant collects drift the brochure never drew.

Design-build that starts from use still has to pass engineering. Ask who stamps the frame for your county before the deposit clears. If the answer is vague, you are buying a shed that hopes for mild winters.

• What ground snow number does your AHJ expect for this parcel?
• Are there taller roofs or terrain that create drift on one eave?
• Will equipment on the roof change clear span or purlin spacing?
• Who owns the stamp if the manufacturer and the erector disagree?
